This post is one of two things, depending on how you look at it:
- In response to the frenzy many people find themselves in over Sarah Palin's mistake of saying North instead of South, when speaking of our allies in Korea, when Palin clearly knows the difference.
- A way to show how many times the most powerful leader in the world, the President of the United States, had a 'slip of the tongue' himself.
Some are direct quotes; others are indirect because bloggers conveniently scrubbed them off the Internet.
What does it mean when we say a 'slip of the tongue'? Speech errors commonly referred to as slips of the tongue (from the Latin phrase: lapsus linguae) Slips of the tongue are conscious or unconscious deviations from the apparently intended form of an utterance.
Here are some of Obama's utterances.
Were all of them intentional? If not, do any of them matter more or less, than Sarah Palin's slip of the tongue?
President Barack Hussein Obama's 'slips of the tongue'.
"I've travelled to almost all of the 57 states. (referring to the United States)
"...to give them a breathilizer (referring to ashtma treatment: inhaler)
"I really have no response. Because last I checked, Sarah Palin's not much of an expert on nuclear issues."
"I don't think about Sarah Palin".
"Yes we can!"
"Ah, he's a jackass."
"Fired up, ready to go...fired up, ready to go...fired up, ready to go!"
"Sgt. James Crowley acted stupidly."
"Go for it"
"You can put lipstick on a pig. It's still a pig."
Obama's utterances about The US Constitution:
- has deep flaws.
- The Founding Fathers had “an enormous blind spot when they wrote it."
- reflected the fundamental flaw of this country that continues to this day.
A few of my favorites:
Obama has announced that the US is not going to use any nuclear weapons against radical extremists in response to their releasing a biological or chemical weapon against the Unites States. (this one's just plain frightening)
My 11 year old daughter asked, Daddy, did you plug the hole yet?
"Over the last year, the financial industry has repeatedly tried to end this reform with hordes of lobbyists and millions of dollar in ads. Today, I think it's fair to say that these efforts have failed."
We have to continue to spend money to boost the economy.
We have to pass billion dollar stimulus packages to save or create jobs.
At some point....you've made enough money.
Obama to Bill Clinton: Join together with the likes of Rosie O'Donnell and Ann Garafalo to smear the tea party."
Snow, on the whole, means the planet is getting warmer. (After second record amount of snowfall, when it snowed in 49 states, even Florida.)
"I definitely welcome ACORN's input. You don't have to ask me about that, I'm going to call you, even if you, if you didn't ask me. Since I've been in the United States Senate, I've been always a partner with ACORN as well. I've been fighting with ACORN, alongside ACORN, on issues you care about my entire career.
Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai has told Afghan lawmakers that he "will join the Taliban if his western backers kept pushing him to reform."
The Obama administration voiced disappointment with Karzai's outburst. "On behalf of the American people, we're frustrated with the remarks," Robert Gibbs said.
To John McCain, a war hero and POW for 5 years:
"We all know what happens in Arizona when you don't have ID. ... Adios amigos."
Glenn Beck is troublesome. (so is anyone smart enough to see that most of what Obama says is troublesome.)
It will be difficult to choose an Obama quote that historians will remember him by, while these quotes are easily associated with other Presidents of the United States:
George Washington: "It is impossible to rightly govern a nation without God and the Bible."
Abraham Lincoln: ""You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time."
Franklin Delano Roosevelt: ""Physical strength can never permanently withstand the impact of spiritual force."
John Fitzgerald Kennedy: "Ask not what your Country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country."
Ronald Wilson Reagan: "If we lose freedom here, there is no place to escape to. This is the last stand on Earth."
Which of Obama's 'slips' do you believe were intentional?
If you had to choose, which statement of Obama's will he best be remembered for in history?
